St Peters Court, Bedminster, Bristol

St Peters Court is a £13m mixed use development in Bristol’s Bedminster area comprising of 86 residential units, a health centre, offices, library, and conversion of an existing Grade II listed Old Police Station building into a pub/restaurant. P G Enterprises purchased the site in 2002 and then formed a partnership with Bristol City Council Library Services to acquire the rights to develop the adjacent site which includes a Grade II listed building housing the Bedminster library. The existing library has been relocated into the new build creating a state of the art facility which tracks modern trends in library services. The vacated building will be refurbished to establish a ground floor art gallery with offices above. The key to the success of the project has been the relationship with the Bristol City Council Library Services where close cooperation has ensured that the aspirations of all stakeholders have been met.

Benefits to the community have been focussed on – not only by the provision of a modern health centre and library, but also with the cultural slant that a new public art gallery will provide. The gallery is managed and run by the Grant Bradley Charitable Trust and offers opportunities for local and international artists to display their work.

The company is particularly proud of what has been achieved with this development as the partnering relationships developed with all stakeholders including English Heritage, Affordable Housing and Conservation Officers has resulted in our achieving a development that meets the aspirations of all.

Visit by HRH The Princess Royal to
St Peter’s Court

St George’s Day - 23rd April 2007

Princess Anne was met by Fiona Bradley and Rev Gregory Grant when she arrived at St Peter’s Court. With her were HM Lord Lieutenant, Jay Tidmarsh, and the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr Royston Griffey.

She had asked to meet a tenant in the community housing flats where she was met by Alastair Millington and Tom Tippetts of Places for People. Jaspal Singh Atwal was the lucky resident who took her on a tour of his apartment in St Paul’s House, New Charlotte Street. Jaspal said: “Princess Anne was very interested in my flat and had a good look round – luckily, I had tidied up and put the kettle on!” Escorted on her tour by Rev Gregory Grant, Princess Anne then called into Bedminster Family Practice where she met doctors, staff and members of the Patients’ Group.

HRH then walked round to The Grant Bradley Gallery where she met Ian Walker, MD, PG Group. She also met Stuart Gaiger, PG New Business Manager, Malcolm Broad, David Coke and Sue Farthing of HSBC Bank, Kier Western’s MD Peter Young and Richard Francis, architect/director of Atkins Walters & Webster.

Glass artist Stephen Bradley created a gift of a crystal vase, based on a Lalique pattern which was inscribed “St Peter’s Court, 23rd January 2007”. John and Tom Bradley presented her with a spring bouquet.

HRH unveiled a plaque dedicating St Peter’s Court to the memory of Peter Bradley and signed the visitor’s book. She was very interested in the “Set All Free” exhibition which marked the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade .
